Art enhances your well being

Engaging with art can greatly improve your mental well-being. It has been proved to relieve stress, anxiety, and depression. The nature of the artwork matters more than you might think. It should be art that is personal to you and not be something mass produced that was cheaply purchased in a supermarket. That artwork is cute, but is no more significant than the colour of your scatter cushions, coloured bedding or your matching towels in the shower room. Unlike supermarket prints, original art will be your faithful companion for life and will always ‘speak to you’

Reflecting on a piece of art always serves as a meditative experience, even if you neither like it nor understand it. For a few short moments, your mind has thought of little else but how it should respond to the artwork in front of you.

Entering a quiet art gallery or arts centre has a very similar effect to that of entering a concert hall, a large theatre or even a sports stadium because your surroundings change to something unfamiliar and yet, safe, all embracing. An escape from the pressures of daily life is achieved because you are preparing to focus on something quite different from the world you left outside.

Likewise, when your home is filled with meaningful art, it can become your personal sanctuary; your safe place far away from the madness of modern life. You may still carry your troubles with you but the CREATIVITY, the EMOTIONAL SUPPORT provided by your art environment will calm and heal you so that everything has a chance to become more balanced.
