How to make good art and the Golden Section
A presentation will explain the universal nature of the Golden Section and demonstrate how it can be found in nature, how it has been used in art, architecture and design and why the Kit Kat is the most popular chocolate snack of all time. Students will construct their own 'Fibonnaci spiral' and will measure each other's arms and hands to see how this ratio applies in the human body. Suitable for anyone 16+. Students will learn how the Golden Section can be found in all of nature and using it in their work can make it more appealing to the viewer. In this workshop, students will discover: 1. The meaning of ‘the Golden Section’ 2, How to find it in nature and your own body 3. Its impact on art, architecture, and design 4. Methods to incorporate it into their own creations 5. How to construct a Fibonacci spiral

Slow Looking
Take a moment for yourself. During her exhibition at Craven Arts House, Bridget March will be offering free lunchtime mindfulness sessions designed to help you pause, reset, and reconnect. Research suggests that spending even a few seconds in focused attention with a painting can have calming and stimulating effects. In this 45‑minute session, you’ll experience slow looking—a mindful practice now embraced by major art galleries around the world as a powerful way to relax, refresh, and deepen your engagement with art. Open to anyone aged 16+, this gentle, creative activity invites you to slow down, tune into your senses, and discover new layers within the artwork around you. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to develop your observational and descriptive language skills. Uplifting, grounding, and quietly transformative, this mindful experience may just change the way you look at art forever. Session led by: Bridget March. Artist. Teacher/Lecturer of 23 years experience in HE and community arts.

From the Earth

From the Earth
This is a group exhibition by artist members of North Yorkshire Open Studios. I will be showing my new 'ENERGY' collection of four paintings. ‘ENERGY’ is a series celebrating the four seasons, capturing the colours and elements of each quarter of my Northern homeland. This annual cycle and the lunar phases offer the energy and natural rhythms of life that touch our very bones. The fox in winter, an unfurling fern in spring, the swallows of summer and the abundance of autumn, each offer up their own thrill to us. To warm up, I start each painting with a memory of a meaningful place or of a journey. I make those strokes with purpose, colours coming first, details emerging from the visions in my mind. Interconnections are illustrated by the geometry of the spiral, the mathematics the same as that of our galaxy and shared by all forms of life. Within this form, I arrange the symbols and patterns of each season. As I paint, the emotions I am experiencing flow, forming the artwork. I create art to share my joy and wonder of our natural world. My paintings stand as a reminder of our unity with the infinite universe. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The exhibition brings together an inspiring range of 2D and 3D artworks, including glass, ceramics, paper, print, painting, textiles, bronze, and mixed media. Each piece is accompanied by a short written insight from the artist, offering visitors a glimpse into the techniques, materials, and ideas that shape their creative process. Drawing on subjects as vast as tectonic shifts and as intimate as moss-covered boulders, the exhibition reflects the many ways artists interpret the natural world. From moon cycles to ancient landscapes, From the Earth invites audiences to consider the forces, histories, and textures that lie beneath our feet.

Traces - Skipton's heritage in focus
This exhibition is a collaboration between Craven Arts and Skipton Civic Society. The artists of Craven District are invited to produce new work that highlights Skipton's built heritage. I will be showing four new colourful paintings of the library, Skipton Castle, the Coach Street bridge over the canal and one of the typical clusters of houses on the banks of the Spring Canal. This is going to be a real landmark event for the Arts House and the 27 artists taking part.
