What is the Golden Section?

The 'Fiboncci sequence' is a series of numbers in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers:

1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89.........................


This series of numbers and proportions was known by ancient Indian mathematicians as early as 300BC. You Leonardo Bonacci would travel to north Africa with his merchant father. He learned about ancient mathematics from the traders there and brought his learning back to 13th century Italy where these proportions were incorporated into the visual arts and architecture. Of course, they discovered that the Romans and Greeks, before them, had been using this system in their own arts and architecture as can be seen in the proportions of the Parthenon in Athens and in classic Roman arches.
